The classic Adidas model of the Predator has been taken here and adapted into a modern day boot. Whilst the Goletto VIs aren’t one of the headline releases, we thought that we’d let you and the world know what we thought about them. So read on for our thorough Adidas Goletto review as we look into the VI football boots.

Name – 7/10

The Goletto VIs have a solid title. Although Goletto, if anything, sounds a bit too flashy for a pretty simplistic boot. It has that Italian-sounding name, which is fitting. Italian sides are notorious for defending strongly, and being solid at the back. This is exactly what this boot is, a solid and proper defender’s boot. Yet, being an Adidas creation, it still maintains that German ingenuity and efficiency. So basically, if you wear these you’ll be a Paolo Maldini/Franz Beckenbauer (both in their prime of course) hybrid.

Look – 6/10

Let’s be honest, they’re not too much to look at. You won’t be walking in Sports Direct, and be instantly drawn to the Adidas Golettos. But what hardy defender wants to be wearing over the top, multicolored rainbows on their feet? Football boots 101: A defender may only wear boots with black, white and grey on them (a stripe of a subtle blue or maybe, if you’re pushing it,  red is just about acceptable).

These look smart, and professional. The primary model comes in all black with white stripes and heel. The secondary model is the opposite way around and for those who need a little more vigour in their footwear, there’s also a model which is blue all over with orange stripes and heel.

It’s refreshing to see a boot like this. There’s no super, hyper flyknit skynit technology that makes the boot resemble something your Nan may have knitted. Just the old-school rubber outer. The heel is also ‘regularly’ shaped which is starting to become a bit of a rarity.

Features – 7/10

Again, honesty is the best policy. The Goletto VI footy boot has little innovative technology. It is far from revolutionary in the market. But sometimes that’s a good thing. It’s not trying to be groundbreaking. It’s not trying to shock the world. Adidas here are simply trying to deliver a reliable, old-school type of boot where players will know exactly what they’re getting with it. We’ve scored it averagely at a seven due to the fact that in terms of features, the boot doesn’t have too many and the features it does have, as we have said, are simplistic. But that’s what we love about them!

Adidas have taken the best and reliable features of other boots and put them into one sufficient package.

It has a synthetic leather upper which gives the boot a sturdy basis. Leather does fade and wear, but it will be a while if you maintain your football boots the way you should.

Adidas have plugged the Goletto boot as enhancing speed, to which we are slightly bemused at. They are, albeit lightweight, however we feel that there are better boots out there which promote speed. We certainly wouldn’t recommend wingers or strikers to buy or wear the Golettos. On the other hand, we do feel that in terms of boots for defenders, this is one of the best for enhancing speed. A defended needs a boot that is durable, that is the big need for any player who puts in big challenges. This boot gives that and it’s light weight ensures you’re not running with bricks on your feet.

The rubber outer and leather upper gives the boot a very strong structure. Out of all the boots I’ve worn, I can honestly say that this is by far the sturdiest. There is little flexibility within the boot as a consequence though. This is not necessarily too disastrous, as the advantage of a flexible boot is that it can fit to the foot better and be more comfortable. However, it sacrifices durability, and often flexible boots which mould around a player’s foot are far more flimsy. So therefore, as long as you make sure you know your size, you’ll be set and the Golettos will be as comfortable as wearing feathers on your feet.

Value for money – 9/10

The Adidas Goletto VI football boots can be bought for a very reasonable price. They truly have kept it all simple throughout the production of the boot, and the price tag is no different. As long as you’re not expecting a revolutionary boot, and know exactly what you’re getting (which hopefully you should after this!), then it will hard to feel aggrieved with the price you pay for these models.

They’re underpriced in the sense of the job that they will do, and these are especially beneficial as they should last you longer than the average boot- thus saving you the pounds in the long run.

Pro advocates – N/A

No pro footballers currently wear the Adidas Goletto VI boots that we know of, but they’re still fairly new. Also, defenders now are more like ball-playing midfielders nowadays, so the need for strong boots capable of equipping feet for crunching tackles is not great.

Needless to say, Adidas have an array of footballers on their books if you’re worried that the brand is for some reason not as popular as it once was. Mesut Ozil, scorer of one of the goals of the season so far, wears the PureControls, along with many of his German superstar teammates.

Final verdict on the Adidas Goletto VI football boots

As we have said before, Adidas have slightly confused us with their marketing for this one. Maybe the game is changing so far towards pace that all types of boots now (even for defenders where pace is seemingly less vital) require the capacity to enable you to move quickly. Maybe Adidas got it wrong. Maybe we are wrong in thinking this, but it seems that this boot is tailor-made for defenders.

By saying don’t expect too much, we don’t want you to think this isn’t a good boot worth purchasing, it is. But if you’re the type of player that wants to flaunt the latest technology on his feet on the pitch, this is not the boot for you. If you want a safe option, a reliable boot that won’t let you down and will give you full confidence when going about your defensive duties, the Adidas Goletto VIs more than fit the bill.
