We’re are not saying that all these transfers are set in stone, nor even that they’re close to going through. What we are suggesting though, is that these have more chance of going through than what is commonly thought. I mean, if Vardy can bang those recent chatters, swear at linesmen and still win the league while being idolised by a nation, I am sure one of these has a chance of happening.
Christian Benteke to Arsenal
It is, and has been well-documented for years now about Arsenal’s deficiencies in the striker department. They’ve made their fans suffer through years of Marouane Chamakh, Nicklas Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo, and have failed to replace RVP’s departure. Benteke has admitted that he is frustrated and constantly being on the bench under Jurgen Klopp, and even said that he regrets his move from Aston Villa.
He is 12/1 to move to the Emirates (all odds to move are for the transfer to go through before 3rd September via Sky Bet) and has been heavily linked to the Gunners for a while now. As a clinical finisher, he could be the potent forward threat needed for Arsenal to get to that extra level and win the league.
Wayne Rooney to PSG
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s move to Mourinho’s Unites looking all the more likely, PSG will need to fill the void that he will leave. Rooney has recently, over the past season adopted a midfield-role for both club and country, as his pace and sharpness begins to deteriorate. His immense technical ability is still with him though, including a lethal shot and a great range of passing. The England captain is only 30, which means he still will have a couple of good years left in him.
His odds are 25/1. Everton are his only realistic Premier League option. Considering he has been at United for over a decade, he would not move to a rival, and would not want to go somewhere without Champions League football. Everton, however, may appeal to him as he started his career there. His mate Becks also went to PSG, ending his career there.
Hector Bellerin to Barca
Dani Alves’ departure from the Nou Camp means that Barca will need to find a young, long-term replacement. Their attacking style of play calls for almost a winger, and a full-back who lives to get forward. Does Bellerin not fit this bill perfectly?
Although he is seemingly happy at the Emirates, if the world’s best team comes knocking, it is hard to turn them away. He is 10/3 to go back to Spain to the club that he came to England from originally. This move is made all the more likely by the fact that the Gunners have both Matthieu Debuchy and Callum Chambers in reserve at right-back.
Paul Pogba to PSG
Pogba has been absolutely killing things in Serie A, and has been instrumental in helping Juventus attain yet another league title. The midfielder power-house is wanted with a range of clubs, but his success mean that he will come with a price tag. That leaves only just a handful of clubs who could afford to fork out the money for him.
Would he go back to United? It is a possibility. But they are without illustrious Champions League football, and so this is unlikely. We can’t see him joining City after his time at United, where he was part of a famous Youth Cup-winning side. Barca will have no real use for him, as he doesn’t really fit their style. With Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and others in central midfield, he is not in great demand. Real could be PSG’s only real competition, but we do think Pogba may just choose to join his France teammate Blais Matuidi.
Adam Szalai to whoever he wants to
Yes, we are talking about everyone’s favourite Hungarian, favourite striker even. He may not have previously scored since 2014, but he did get on the scoresheet at Euro 2016. His clinical opener against Austria has undoubtedly put him on all the big club’s radars. He is currently at Hannover, on loan from Hoffenheim. Clearly well below where he should be.
Real, Barca, Bayern, who knows where this guy will end up. But put it this way, bookies aren’t even offering odds for him to be next season’s Ballon d’Or winner… They must be certain he is going to win.
