The hype is there, but let’s really see what the new Adidas Ace 16+ PureControls football boots are all about.

Name  – 5/10

The name of a boot obviously has no relevance to its quality, just as your name doesn’t define you as a person. But who really wants a name like Winston, and equally, nobody wants to be knocking a football around on a Sunday wearing boots with a ridiculous name. I feel Adidas have slightly overkilled it with this one. The general rule of thumb is that the more names, the more ridiculous they sound. PureControl sounds fairly respectable though, thus making up for the unnecessary pre-modifiers. Surely a name should be small and snappy no?

Colour – 8/10

The classic colour of the PureControls is green with the three black Adidas stripes on the sides. They look very flash and not too bright, which is always a plus. You can also get them in black which just looks too smooth. But we are ones for a bit of contrast here, and the fact that there’s just two different colours rates this one down a little.

Style – 9/10

Yes! Yes! Yes! These are the James Bonds of all boots! They’re cool, smart and very good to look at. Similarly to Nike’s high-collared ankles, Adidas have included a collar on these PureControls. They’re not as blatant however, and the subtlety of it (it’s just one centimetre) doesn’t make it seem like it is crying out for attention. It makes a nice addition to the boot for a couple of reasons as we will elaborate on later. The scale-like exterior gives it that shiny, forever new look. It means that they won’t wear away as easily like other boots, and just makes the boot all the sexier.

Value for money – 6/10

Adidas’ PureControls are rather revolutionary and brilliantly innovative, there’s no denying. Are these footy boots the top-of-the-range? Yes. Is the technology and style of the boot superior to anything that has come before this model? Yes. But they come with a hefty price tag so be prepared to pay for the quality with these ones.

It’s one of those where if you’re going all out, you may as well go all out. If you’re willing to spend around £150-200 on a pair of football boots, then you might as well spend that extra few pounds on these bad boys. What’s that saying? Go hard or go home!

Pro Advocates – 9/10

If three-a-side were a thing, then this team would be rather tough to beat. Arsenal’s, German World-Cup winner Mezut Ozil wears Ace 16+ PureControls and is the poster boy of the boot. He has worn them for the entirety of this Premier League season in which he has managed to conjure up 18 assists in just 33 appearances.

Second on the list, is just some French midfield beast who goes by the name of Paul Pogba. The ex-Man United youngster recently helped Juventus secure yet another Serie A title. Not satisfied in wearing just the regular PureControls, Big Paul has had his own Adidas PureControls made, called Pogbooms.

Barcelona’s Ivan Rakotic also sports Adidas’ newest models.

Features – 7/10

The main feature, the goal-scoring centre forward to Adidas’ PureControls, is undoubtedly the ‘laceless’ aspect to the boot. Just when people thought that footballers perfectly provide a living and breathing definition to the word idiot, here comes along a boot which removes the tricky task of tying your own laces. Obviously, this is not why the design was made like that (and the majority of footballers are actually quite intelligent). The design is to nullify the impact that laces would, or previously have had, on shooting. Living up to its name of Pure Control, the boot enables you to have a clean strike with no interferences… Or a ‘Pure’ strike. Yes. It is all making so much sense now.

The studs are a different shape to previous models. They’re circular, which allows for complete and uncompromised traction no matter what angle you turn at. So don’t fret if you’re about as agile as a giraffe on ice, these beauties will ensure stability.

The upper is made from an improved version of Primeknit technology. This gives the boot strength, however, it also contains a waterproof layer which efficiently does what it says on the metaphorical tin, and protects your foot from whatever wind, rain, snow, sleet or hail the good old British weather can throw at you. It also helps to secure the foot within the boot, and minimalises when playing.

The collar that we referred to earlier is significant. It fits around the ankle like a sock, to give the wearer extra comfort. It additionally, combined with the lightness of the boot, adds a seamless feel. Without meaning to sound too much like a philosophical hippie, it makes the boot and foot seem as one, helping to improve first touch and accuracy within all aspects of your game.

Finally, pull loops help to enable you to tighten or loosen the boot at your own desire. Who needs laces? Come on, it is the 21^st century.

Final Verdict – Are the Adidas’ Ace 16+ PureControl Football Boots Worth Buying?

In our opinion, the Ace 16+ PureControl football boots are the real deal. The look. The feel, the technology, it’s all cutting-edge and Adidas really have produced a challenge to the impressive new Nike ranges. Without a doubt the PureControls rank up there as one of the coolest boots around at the moment. We thought they were particularly perfect for those midfielders who love nothing more than spraying passes around the pitch, and genuinely dictating the play of the game.

The minor details, with the studs and the ankle collar, really add a lot to the overall performance of the boot. It’s clear that Adidas has really tried to create a boot for the player, and the technology used definitely emphasises this. In my personal opinion, they are definitely worth the investment and you certainly won’t be disappointed with these bad boys.
