Well thank goodness that’s finally over! Week after week of transfers rumours, expectations and ITKs (in the knows) acting like they know what’s going on in this nationwide saga.
Anyone else just think there should be a transfer day? Just one day where all madness just breaks out and clubs practically commence in a frantic battle royale to try to secure the players they need. Even better, give each team only five bids, and sit back and watch Jim White narrate the story of Arsenal fans crying after being rejected by five different strikers.
But to celebrate its end, we thought we’d conjure up a list of the top football transfers of the summer. This is not purely judged on the quality of the player, but the quality of the acquisition in context with the club and also the value for money of the player. And, of course, we will mention the footy boots that they wear!
We are not including loan or transfers where the fee was not disclosed.
Top 10 England football transfers of summer 2016
1. Paul Pogba: Juventus – Man United (89m)
Not much needs to be said about this Man United fella. We all know who he is and we all know what he is about. Is £89 million a lot to pay for Pogba? Of course it is. But if that is what the price that teams are willing to pay for the world’s best football player then so be it. The Frenchman had a below par Euros but is still a decent buy.
What football boots does Paul Pogba wear?
Pogba wears his own custom Pogboom football boots, a version of the Adidas Ace 16+ PureControls.
2. Granit Xhaka: Borussia Monchengladbach – Arsenal (33.8m)
Not too many people knew too much about Xhaka before his high-profile move to the Gunners. He had a good Euros and shows real maturity and promise for a 23-year-old. He impressed in Arsenal’s recent 3-1 win against Watford, and looks like a much needed signing for Arsene Wenger’s men.
What football boots does Xhaka wear?
Xhaka wears Under Armour ClutchFit Force 2.0.
3. Christian Benteke: Liverpool – Crystal Palace (27m)
He showed us all immense talent in his breakthrough season for Aston Villa, but since has struggled to live up to that standard. He had a little flurry at Liverpool but never got going. Palace have got themselves a real goalscorer and at a price which doesn’t reflect the heavily inflated striker market too highly.
What football boots does Christian Benteke wear?
Benteke wears Nike Tiempo Legend VIs.
4. David Luiz: PSG – Chelsea (34m)
Yes! Sideshow Bob is back making his trade in England once again, after describing the French league as ‘playing FIFA on beginner mode.’ What a hero. We would love to give you an opinion on him, but he has captained Brazil to a 7-1 semi-final defeat and yet used to bang in 40-yard free-kicks on the regular. So we are reserving judgement and are just going to appreciate the fact that the legend is back with us.
What football boots does David Luiz wear?
Luiz wears Nike Magista Obra IIs.
5. Steven Fletcher: Sunderland – Sheffield Wednesday (Free)
No, this is not a typo. Steven Fletcher is in the same list as Paul Pogba. Hear us out though. He was prolific and instrumental in keeping Sunderland up a couple of years back, banging in goals pretty much weekly where nobody else really wanted to help him. At 29, he will still have a couple more years left in the tank. And for that price, for a Championship side to get him. We think Wednesday have done very well here.
What football boots does Steven Fletcher wear?
Fletcher wears Nike Hypervenom Phantom IIs.
6. Victor Valdes: Man United – Middlesbrough (Free)
Another freebie here, as Borough acquired this gem amongst quite a few others. The Spaniard was left to rot at United under Louis Van Gaal and now will surely get first team football. Let’s not forget he is still a top keeper, who helped Barca to infinite success, and has now ended up at Middlesbrough. What’s more, they got him for free! Great buy!
What football boots does Victor Valdes wear?
Valdes wears the Nike Magista Opuses.
7. John Stones: Everton – Man City (47.5m)
This is one of those where you mate flirts with a bird every time he sees her but then claims that they are ‘just good friends’. Everyone knows that eventually they will get together, it is just a waiting game. This transfer had been in the pipeline for a while and now the Stones Saga is finally over. Very expensive price, but he is undoubtedly going to be England’s best defender, if he isn’t already.
What football boots does John Stones wear?
Stones wears Nike Hypervenom Phinishes.
8. Lucas Perez: Deportivo – Arsenal (17.1m)
Well, it’s not Vardy. Or Mahrez. Or Higuain. Or Lacazette, Draxler or any other of the thousands of forwards that Arsenal have been linked with but not bought. But well done Wenger, you finally did it and bought a striker. He was tearing things up for a below-par Deportivo side in LaLiga, and this price is exceptional considering his ability… And the fact that he’s an actual striker that Arsenal have signed!
What football boots does Lucas Perez wear?
Perez wears Nike Mercurial Vapour Vis.
9. ‘The Beast’ Kante: Leicester City – Chelsea (32m)
This is an absolutely quality buy. We won’t insult your footballing knowledge by telling you about his heroics for the champions last season, but he was simply immense. To be fair, paying £64 million for him could nearly be justified, let alone half of that.
What football boots does Kante wear?
Kante wears magnets on his feet which ensures no attacker dribbles passed him and no player passes beyond him.
10. Zlatan Ibrahimovic: PSG – Man United (Free)
As we know, strikers are scarce in the market. Well, available, top-quality strikers we should say. Zlatan is one of the world’s best, and is a true legend of the game. United getting him on a free nullifies the ‘but he is old’ argument, as yeah he may be, but he is still awesome and for that price why wouldn’t you get him? He is our best buy of the summer.
What football boots does Zlatan Ibrahimovic wear?
Ibrahimovic wears Nike Mercurial Vapour VIs.
