ENGLANDDD! Done, article finished.
Oh we wish it were that simple. While England may be favourites with the bookies, we’re not entirely convinced that we will get over the line. Call us cynical, call us negative, but we’ve experienced far too many disappointments to get our hopes up.
However, with Spain not being as strong as they were in the late 2000s and 2010s, Portugal being led by an out-of-prime Cristiano Ronaldo and Germany looking a shell of their typically strong selves, we do have as good a chance as anytime to win it. That along with the fact that we have Phil Foden, Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, three of the best players in the world right now, and the likes of Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice as an ensemble backup cast, it could really come home.
BUT, there is one big, garlic-loving, baguette-carrying, beret-wearing problem…France. Kylian Mbappe alone is enough to strike fear into any Englishman’s heart, but their sheer strength in depth of the squad is remarkable.
Despite setting our probability for Germany to win it at just 14%, the hosts are still third favourites to win it. We just can’t see it happening, though, with their lack of form of late being a real concern. That coupled with the pressure of playing on home soil and the lack of top, top quality players like they’ve had before means we’re not fancying the trophy to go to Berlin.
Portugal have Ronaldo. Albeit a 39-year-old Ronaldo, but a Ronaldo nonetheless. He and Bruno Fernandes, whose shined in a less-than-shiny Man United team this season could be a lethal combo.
Italy haven’t seemed to have had a decent team since the early 2000s but somehow always seem to turn it on at the Euros. Similarly, the Netherlands don’t have the top quality they once had, but could be a sneaky outside shot. Belgium are definite outsiders for the favourites, but with Kevin De Bruyne and Lukaku flailing about up top, if the two click we could see a bit of magic.
Can England Win the Euros?
Yes, we can and with the squad we have, we should be winning the Euros. IF Gareth Southgate takes the breaks off and plays to our attacking strengths, we will be hard to beat. Our weakness, undoubtedly, is at the back. With injury, illness and fitness concerns to several defenders, we could be left very short.
But that is exactly we can’t sit back and cautiously look to get through games. That’s what we’ve done before, most notably against Italy in 2020’s final. Instead, just go for it. Play to our strengths, fear nobody and leave it all out there.

Will France Win the Euros?
It’s a great possibility for one reason and one reason only, Mbappe is a tank. Pace, finishing, skill – he’s no doubtedly one of the best players on the planet right now. They also have some good experience in the side, with the likes of Olivier Giroud, Antoine Griezmann and N’Golo Kante, mixed in with a sprinkling of youngsters as well.
Their results of late have been somewhat varied. In the last year, they’ve lost twice to Germany and drawn to Greece and Canada – the latter being their last game before the tournament. However, they’ve also beaten Gibraltar 14-0 and The Netherlands twice in qualifying.
If France show up, they’re a real threat to England’s chances.
