The FIFA World Cup 2018 due to start on June 14th and we’re buzzing! It’s the ultimate football tournament and we can’t wait to watch with glee and then confusion as England stumble out before the semis. But we’re not here to talk about England’s anticipated performance. Instead, we’re focusing on the World Cup kits.
So much has been said about Nigeria prior to this World Cup. Is it because of their immense on-field play? Their crazy off the field antics? Not quite. Rather the hype has been about the quality, or even snazziness, of their kit… It really is something else!
But we thought, let’s not just stop there. Let’s go through all of the World Cup kits and determine which ones you’ll be flocking to Sports Direct to get hold of, and which ones will die a humbling death at the end of this tournament and fade away into the deep, dark depths of obscurity.
We must start with Nigeria’s kit.
These two images alone deserve some sort of photographic, cinematography award. Is that a thing? If it isn’t then it should be. But without meaning to go all ‘pretentious art critic’ on you, the way these pictures have captured the mood of said model and portrayed real meaningful, yet powerful connotations.
Now, just look at that kit. Is it a zebra-print? Is it some sort of arrow formation? Will those arrows begin to move around after you’ve had a few too many pints? Questions we don’t have the answers to. It is just simply audacious and yet Nike have pulled it off.
Three million pre-orders alone testifies to Nike’s good work – someone over there deserves a raise.
From the amazing to the mundane. Poland’s kit is just not up to scratch. White is naturally a boring shade, yet some genius thought to add that fluorescent, exciting and flamboyant colour… Grey to liven things up a bit.
With such a striking badge, the rest of the shirt was crying out to be something equally as imposing. Just seems like Nike ran out of imagination after designing the Nigerian masterpiece.
The South Koreans have gone down a similar road as the Polish in terms of going with white for their kit. We would be rather contradictory if we criticise the Polish strip and not this Korean shirt, but somehow this one just looks better.
What is different? Just a few little red and blue lines. But it is different. And we are not talking, Danny-Welbeck’s-Bambi-like-technique-in-comparison-to-any-other-footballer-on-the-planet different. We are talking about those crazy Koreans taking the colours of a well-known toothpaste brand (that rhymes with shmolgate), splashing it on their shirt in a random linear pattern and making it work. Hats off to you.
What in the world, is this absolute abomination? Talk about ugly, well this takes the bloody biscuit. That red/orange colour is brave. Usually, orange only really goes with black, but Adidas have gone with a few shades of blue to (we can only assume) try to compliment the orange.
Not too sure what is going on with those stripey zigzags either, disgusting kit!
Praise, praise Puma for blessing the World Cup with this monstrosity. At least England won’t be the biggest laughing stock with Luis Suarez and co. running around wearing this design. I’m sure I made something similar to this when I was six with a potato and some paint… Might have well as let a six-year-old have a crack at this, they couldn’t have come up with something much worse.
Quick! Quick! Give my eyes something bearable to look at after the previous two terrors from South America. Iceland come to the rescue to refresh our vision and enable us to enjoy the sense of seeing again. Ever heard of simplicity is key? Well they’ve clearly gone with that, and then when they got to the sleeve thought screw it let’s go for this.
Beautiful, mesmorising and unique. We love all three of Iceland’s World Cup kits! We can’t wait for more sychronised clapping at this World Cup as well!
Those are our thoughts on all the best, worst and down right ugliest kits at this year’s World Cup. Have we missed any out? Do you agree with us? If not let us know which World Cup kit is a thing of beauty and which should be tossed away come August, never to be seen again.
What are the best football boots in the world? It’s a commonly asked question. But how can we answer it? If only we had some major event coming up where all the best players from around the world will meet, sporting the very best football boots on the market at the moment and, I don’t know, played in some tournament against one another. Oh that’s right, we do! The World Cup 2018 is here and ...[Read More]

They’re among an array of other worldwide talents that we ...[Read More]
