All oil-money jokes aside, Man City have been an established English football side for decades. Albeit, things changed hugely in 2008, but we should take nothing away from the team that they were before then.
That being said, since 2008, or maybe a few seasons later when they really started to get an all-star team together, they’ve been one of the most exciting prospects in world football. They always had the talent on the pitch, and where Manuel Pellegrini and Roberto Mancini did bring success, no manager has quite suited City more than current boss Pep Guardiola.
But enough of the history lesson, let’s get to it! Sergio Aguero is the eighth all-time Premier League top scorer (151 as of December 2018), Raheem Sterling is currently one of the best players in the league and Kevin De Bruyne is widely considered among the best midfielders in the world, but what boots are these stars wearing?
Sergio Aguero and David Silva must take the crown for this one. They both wear the Puma One 1 football boots (confusing name, we know), which have a very… ‘golfy’ design. Yes, we have used golfy as an adjective, but if you look at these boots, you’ll understand why. Take away the football studs and camo decor around the heel and you have a shoe fit for Tiger Woods himself – maybe before all of the sex and drink-driving scandals.
Don’t be fooled by their appearance though. The Puma One 1s boast a diverse range of materials that work in unison to enhance multiple aspects of a player’s game; comfort, technique and control.
If you need any more validation of these Pumas’ credibility, David Silva has worn Adidas X and Predator 18.1s also this year, but seemingly chose Puma and their Puma One 1 models instead.
Puma -2
Adidas – 9
Nike – 12
Nike is the most popular football boots brand in the Manchester City team, with just ovr 50% of players wearing them. Adidas come in a close second and Puma, with only David Silva and Sergio Aguero wearing them, comfortably coming third.
Nike Phantom VSNs are the most popular football boots in the Manchester City team.
Ederson has been absolutely lauded with praises this and last season, and rightly so. The Brazilian arrived at the Etihad in 2017 from Benfica, with Pep bringing him in specifically for his play-out-of-the-back qualities after Claudio Bravo was deemed insufficient in that quality. He settled very well and despite the odd hiccup along the way, he is widely considered as one of the best keepers in the league.
As mentioned, Bravo is Ederson’s understudy – and a good one at that. His quality could definitely get him regular first team football elsewhere, but with him now being well into his mid-30s, perhaps he’s content with remaining at one of the best clubs in Europe.
The gold and black colours of this boot make it look like a skimpy, leopard-print speedos worn on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro. Still, Kompany is a true old-school centre-back who is, when fully fit, one of the best defenders around. What a shame the Belgian’s career has been hampered so perilously by injury.
Another one bought for his ability to play out of the back, Laporte is a valuable asset to the City squad.
Since his move from Spurs, Walker has been a prominent fixture in City’s lineups. His attacking style of play has made him the ideal fit for Guardiola’s philosophy.
Yet another defensive player who was brought in for his ability to play from defence, Stones’ transfer from Everton made a lot of headlines. City paid nearly £50m for a defender… A DEFENDER! Unbelievable. Next thing you’ll be telling us is that Romelu Lukaku is still starting for United with that hideous first touch… Oh wait he is still starting…?!
Full-time social media influencer, part-time footballer, Mendy career on the pitch has been hindered with injury. When fit, he’s a great player.
With a beard to rival Olivier Giroud, this Argentine has now made over 100 appearances in a City shirt.
The Frenchman signed for over £30m, but has largely been a squad player since his arrival in 2014.
Someone check this fella’s birth certificate because there’s no way this guy is 27. He’s in his mid-40s at least.
KDB is one of the best footballers around, no question. Again, he’s suffered with injuries, but his ability to walk into any game and boss things from the middle is remarkable. If he was tanned, had striking black hair and was called Fernando, we’re sure he’d be an even bigger name in this game. But a pale ginger guy called Kevin just doesn’t quite have the marketability of the Neymars and Cristiano Ronaldos of this world (no offence Kev!).
These Nike VSNs give him that extra little bit of flair and showbiz. They are a boot for the playmakers, so they work with KDB as one, making him the dictator in the middle of the park.
Another playmaker who’s excellent at his job is the little Spaniard David Silva. As mentioned, he recently switched over from Adidas to represent Puma, and judging by his form, it seems to have done him well.
Either Sterling is straight out of Hogwarts or he just really can’t be bothered to play for England, because this man has the unique and bizarre ability to play like one of the world’s best for City, and then look like an alcoholic in heels for England. The most telling thing he has done for his country is spark mad celebration by hitting the side-netting in England’s opening game of the 2014 World Cup with that shot against Italy.
But we don’t want to be too harsh on the forward, the press have already slaughtered him enough for tattoos, form and anything else they can comment on. But don’t worry Raheem, we have your back. Ignore what they say, keep playing your football and maybe decide to turn up for a game or two for England. Cheers.
Hang on, haven’t City already got a couple of playmakers? Oh well, here’s another. Silva was part of that famous Monaco team that won Ligue 1 in 2017. He’s been an instrumental figure during Pep Guardiola’s reign.
Shame on you Fernandino. A defensive-midfield powerhouse such as yourself has no place in this game wearing boots this stylish. You should be on the black Umbros my man!
Amidst the wealth of money and endless superstars at the Etihad, it’s very impressive that such a young player can make it to the first team. Foden clearly has a bright future ahead of him for both club and country.
He was Pep’s first City signing, but injury has meant the German hasn’t featured frequently.
Another one of the Predator Squad, Delph is a peculiar player. After absolutely snaking Aston Villa, he moved to City as a relatively low-key player compared to their recent history of illustrious signings. But over the past couple of seasons, he’s smashed it at City. Fair play to him.
He’s like a young, Ukrainian Kevin De Bruyne… but not as skilful, not as good at shooting, passing or dribbling, and will probably be lucky to have half the career KDB has had. Basically, he looks a bit like KDB.
Aguero hasn’t bowed to social and commercial pressure. He hasn’t taken the easy, and perhaps even the more lucrative, way out and signed with Nike or Adidas. No matter how much money they throw at him, no matter how many penthouse suites in Cuba or personal servants they offer him, he tells them NO. I want to stay loyal and remain with Puma.
We’re not sure if Puma offered him those things, nor are we sure Serge is particularly that loyal to the brand, but we needed a narrative for this paragraph so let us off.
We refuse to make a pun about Jesus, God or religion, we just aren’t going to do it. Every time, every single damn time, this Brazilian scores a goal, every headline the next day is ‘Jesus saves…’ or some other horrendous pun that some muppet is actually getting paid to write. We love a bad pun now and again, trust me we have hundreds. But when the same, unoriginal dribble is written again and again, that is where we draw the line. This youngster is a great player, but each goal he scores makes me wince at the thought of the headlines the next day.
Rant over. Next.
Mahrez is another VSN wearer in this City team. He came from that famous Leicester league-winning side and hasn’t done too badly in Manchester. The enhancement in dribbling that the VSNs bring undoubtedly help his game.
Sane’s omission from the Germany World Cup squad was sure to be a killer blow, but the young man has recovered well and is prospering at City.
Having your own banded boots doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re an absolute world-beater in the footballing world. No disrespect to the Portuguese defender, but Pepe has personalised boots… Pepe. In Lionel Messi’s case though, he is more than worth a personalised edition of the Adidas Nemeziz boots. So after a stupid amount of goals, trophies and awards (we would list exact figures a...[Read More]

Just a couple of months ago, Nike released the second version of their successful Hypervenom Phantom boot, the aptly named Hypervenom Phantom II football boot. A lot of anticipation and expectation came with its release, with it being timed perfectly to debut at Euro 2016 and potentially for its popularity to be solidified at the Rio Olympics. But we were still sceptical, sceptical at whether the ...[Read More]
Nike has gone all out in improving the, already well-establish and strong, Superfly brand. Cristiano Ronaldo has infamously got his own personalised pair (CR7s), and helped Real Madrid defeat Wolfsburg in the quarter-final of this season’s Champions League. These won’t make you world-beaters overnight, nor will they help you to score the winning penalty in a Champions League final. But from what w...[Read More]
