Adidas Ace Predator Instinct Football Boots

Adidas Ace Predator Instinct Football Boots

Adidas Predator Instinct Absolion is sharp, animalistic and simply something that you would want to wear on the end of your foot. You’d much rather say to your mate that you’re wearing something called ‘Predators’ or ‘Instincts’ than have to admit that you wear something called ‘Superflys’- and yes, that is a little dig at Nike. Sort out your names! Adidas have done well with this name, Predator Instinct is sharp and smooth.

The Adidas Predators seem to be slightly heavier than previous models, which won’t impact hugely on comfort but will have a small effect. Around the base of the boot, the material is thicker which prevents irritation from studs and means blisters will be a thing of history, a myth in your perfect world of comfort. The upper material of the football boot is soft and allows for moulding from the foot, as well as helping to improve your control due to the fact that it can absorb force from the ball.

Where Adidas have excelled with this one though is with their ‘lethal zone’ technology. They have established areas of the football boot which can be used for a certain aspect of play, and introduced technical designs to improve that part of the game. A gel-pad has been introduced in the forefoot part of the boot for example, which is intended to act as a buffer when controlling the ball. Another zone highlighted, is there to increase shot power.

The part of the boot that you would use to drive the ball towards the keep is padded with rubber, with indented patterns. This creates an almost spring-like effect on the ball when contact is made. The effect of this technology, although incapable of turning your winger Fat Fred into Luiz Figo, will give any player a good basis to improve their game.

For some, this boot is far too mundane for the pink, orange, purple and whatever-other-fluorescent-coloured-boot-there-is-filled world that we live in today. It seems that sports companies have a target to create the most colourful and beautiful-looking football boot there is. Therefore, this red and black nonsense that Adidas have thoughtlessly come out with is a travesty no? No!

These Predator Instincts are a wonderful, nostalgic reminder of a simpler time. Back in 2004, if you didn’t have a pair of Predators, could you really call yourself a footballer? Well yes. But you get my point. Those traditional and old-school colours of red and black, accompanied with the classy three white stripes. That feeling of ‘I am an absolute boss who will one day win the World Cup for my county, receive a knighthood and die a legend’ when you put that unnecessary black elastic strap, which held down the tongue, under your boot. Unforgettable.

That is why we like what Adidas have done with the look of the Absolion football boots. They have replicated true classic boots here. But if heroic nostalgia is not your thing, don’t worry. They also come in blue, white and some other slightly more flamboyant colours.

Also, the exterior is a gorgeous, almost leopard print style. It really does give the boot that elegant, animalistic look. Well done Adidas, we applaud you.

In terms of style with these boots, there is nothing too unique or outstanding. One thing of note, though, is the stud configuration. Nowadays, many more boots are going away from the classic, six-stud boot, instead using up to twelve. This has no real downfall, as an extra few studs add barely any weight and yet they enhance grip, stability and balance hugely.

However, what is a bit different with these Instincts is that there are an odd number of studs, with one squared-shaped stud in the middle of the sole. To be honest with you, we’re not too sure at the effect of putting an extra one in the middle. You could argue more stability etc. but its effect is nullified due to the perimeter of the boot being lined with studs anyway. Also, the studs at the front are triangular, as opposed to circular, which means the studs are less susceptible to skidding.

World Cup winner Mezut Ozil is Adidas’ poster boy, and frequently wore the Adidas Predator Instincts before the Adidas PureControls came out. Oscar, a player who helped the Blues win the league last season, has also been known to wear them.

Bayern Munich’s Holger Badstuber, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba, who now infamously sports Pogbooms, have all also worn these boots.

We could cheat and list all the players who wore the classic Predators back in the day; Stevie G, Beck, Zidane, Kaka etc. but we have integrity and honour.

Value for money – 7/10

Pricey + not new (not that they are old) = not good value for money. This is what many people believe, and to some extent it is true. But, you must also factor in what the boot offers. A £100 PlayStation 2 may be old, and may be pricey, but it could give you hours of fun… Which is priceless. Bad example.

But the Adidas Predator Instinct Absolion football boots can offer a lot of revolutionary technology, which cannot be competed with by the likes of the Nike Superflys. You can grab these boots fairly cheaply now and certainly much cheaper than the Ace16+ PureControls. And once you do get them, you will be impressed.

Final Verdict on Adidas’ Predator Instinct Absolion football boots

All in all, Adidas really upped their game for this model. They made more impactful changes from their previous football boot, and have produced something technologically innovative and exciting.

The style and look to the Predator Instinct just all seems to fit together nicely. Wearing these, you will really feel like something, or more fittingly, someone special.

What we like most about these is the way they have created a new and intuitive boot while keeping part of the classic Predator aspect with it. Keeping what makes the brand itself and not selling out completely to rival other boots on the market in terms of extravagance shows real integrity, and props to Adidas for doing that.

Buying these will put you in an exclusive club, joining some of the world’s best players in wearing one of the most classic and old brands there is on the market today. Well worth a few quid!
