WOWZA! What a year 2016 has been. Who knew that 2016 would be such a significant year, not just for football but also for football boots. It only seems right that we take a look back at what’s been on offer and which are the contenders for the best football boots of 2016.
It seems like only a couple of months ago since I was saying this year will be my year. This year, I will be one of those ripped, muscular guys that other guys envy. I will do all of those things I have been meaning to do for so long. I will finally get out there and be a social butterfly who has more friends than that guy Tom from MySpace. But now, 2017 is approaching and I sporting a two-pack at best, my greatest achievement of the year is not having a nap for two consecutive days and I talk more to Siri than I do anyone else.
Anyway, let’s not dwell on my booming social life and impressive physique, instead, let’s have a look over our favourite aspects of the boots we have reviewed in 2016.
The absolute best of the best football boots from 2016
Best looking football boots – Puma EvoSPEED Fresh

Just as the name states, these Puma EvoSPEED Fresh boots come with a completely fresh look. We liked the fact that literally no other football boot on the market look anything distinctly like these, with the scale-like outer and fade of the light colours. Granted, unique innovation is not always a good thing, especially when it comes to appearance. But we admire Pumas bold step into the unknown.
Best named football boots – Adidas Predator Instinct

“I am lethal in front of goal. When that ball comes, I strike and pounce rapidly and fire it into the net”. That’s what I hear when I see the name Predator Instinct. The name itself has become its own mini-brand, and just saying that you’re wearing Predators is enough to earn the respect of any footballer who knows what the deal is with football boots. Predator Instinct… Great name!
Best coloured football boots – Nike Tiempo Legend VI

The Nike Tiempo Legend VIs are an all-round good-looking boot, but the colours for us stand out above anything else appearance-wise. The undertone of green, and the perfect mix of white and orange for the outer part of the boot give it a clean and smart look. There is just something about these Tiempos which makes them mesmerising.
Best style of football boots – Adidas Ace16+ PureControls

Style should not be confused with look or colour. Style is the shape of the boot and the configuration of all of its components, as well as the general look. The PureControls are one of our favourite football boots because of what they can do for you on the pitch, but the style of the boot as well is magnificent. The crisp cut of the ankle collar, the striking appearance of the red/purple Adidas stripes across the front and the Primeknit material upper with the ‘laceless’ effect all combine to form one gloriously-manufactured specimen of boot.
Craziest features on football boots – Nike Hypervenom Phantom II

When looking at the Nike Hypervenom Phantoms, it is pretty clear what the defining aspect of the football boot is… The collar. A few years ago, an ankle collar on a football boot would have seemed ludicrous, however, it seems as though nowadays, it is becoming an increasingly popular feature for models. We ourselves are not overly keen on the collars, but it cannot be denied that the inclusion of it for these boots is outlandish and innovative. So we commend your ambition Nike. Never stop surprising us.
Most comfy football boots – Nike Mercurial Superfly

Back to Nike again, and this time we praise them for the comfort of their boots. The Mercurial Superflys in particular are, I wouldn’t say like slippers, but the closest thing you will get to wearing slippers on a football pitch. They lock the foot into the boot securely, and give you 100% confidence in any movement you try to make. The last thing you want to be worrying about is not being able to turn as effectively or jump as high because of insufficient support from down below. These give you that platform to go do wonders on the pitch and play to your full potential.
So that is it for 2016. We have loved every second of writing about football boots, and we promise there is much, much more to come for 2017! Happy New Year!
