What a year it has been for Megan Rapinoe. After being instrumental for the USWNT in their surge for yet another World Cup trophy, all the while taking on Donald Trump, she has since just won the Ballon d’Or along with the elite company of Lionel Messi. But all these victories and accolades come a distant second to what Nike has given the Californian. Rapinoe now joins the exclusive club of footballers with their own personal boots, alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba and… hold on who gave Pepe his own boots

As Rapinoe received the Ballon d’Or award, Nike presented her with something far more valuable – her own pair of personalised football boots.

As for their colours: pink and gold, what other colourway would suit? The pink is a homage to Rapinoe’s bright hair that has almost now become a symbol of the 2019 French World Cup. Whilst the gold is a nod to the number of titles she’s won. Not bad at all.

The boots are modelled on the Nike Mercurial Vapor VIIIs and look pretty special. From one side, they have ‘Megan’ printed in gold going down under the soulplate. Rapinoe is on the other side rising up. Four gold stars have been placed neatly down the back of the heel to represent the USA’s four World Cup victories, while also being displayed inside the boot. Although the boots are primarily pink, there are many touches of gold all across the model. There’s even a part of the soulplate cast in the colour of the gods.

What football boots does Megan Rapinoe wear?

At present, Megan Rapinoe has been wearing Nike Mercurial Vapor VIIIs in the blue and white colourways. With Nike adding to her collection though, we may be seeing her in pink very soon. Then again, Nike made sure these boots are unique and incredibly special. So we wouldn’t blame her for framing them and making them a work of art for her to display in her house.

Can I buy a pair of Megan Rapinoe football boots?

Unfortunately, Nike has revealed that these personalised boots are just that, personal to Megan. They won’t be sold to the public. ‘They are one-of-a-kind boots for a one-of-a-kind player.’ Disappointing. But on the plus side, you have to be a very good footballer to pull off wearing pink boots on a Sunday.

If you are desperate though, why not have a look at buying the standard Nike Mercurial Vapor VIIIs? They differ in no way to Rapinoe’s apart from appearance. And for the small additional fee of £1, you can visit Poundland, buy a marker pen and make these personalised too.

Who is the best women’s footballer in the world? Is it Megan Rapinoe?

Her recent scoop of the Ballon d’Or would suggest that Megan Rapinoe is the best women’s footballer in the world. US teammate Alex Morgan, who came third in the rankings, has previously won the award and was very much the poster girl for women’s football.

At 34, she has blown up rather late on in her career. So, Alex Morgan may well take the reins back from her. But at the moment, Megan Rapinoe is the best women’s player in the world.

Overall, Rapinoe is a great role model for aspiring footballers everywhere. Her activism and strength she’s demonstrated is admirable. It’s what makes her not only the best but one of the most well-known figures in women’s football.

However, she killed every English fan’s hopes of seeing our country lift a World Cup title. Pepe has never done that. So, ultimately if we had to choose our favourite player our of all those with personalised boots in some random contest that nobody’s asking for, we would pick Pepe above her all day long. I bet she’s gutted.
